Beginner Package

The beginner's package is perfect for getting you started in Aikido. It includes your first two months dues and a plain white single weave judo uniform.

New members are welcome to begin at any time. Come early for your first class to do your paperwork and to set up your account. Wear something that you will feel comfortable wearing as you roll around. Bring some flip-flops to keep your feet clean.

For adults:

Although you will be welcome to attend any of the classes, we encourage you to make an effort to attend the adult beginner classes on Tuesday and Friday evenings, 7:15 - 8:15. Those classes will introduce you to Aikido basic movement, history, strategy, and etiquette. Proper ukemi (the art of falling down safely) will be stressed. Some basic Aikido techniques will be introduced. Senior students will be in practice to assist you.

The USAF New Student Guide will help introduce you to Aikido, the United States Aikido Federation (USAF) and your dojo.

For children:

Aikido is great for kids and lots of fun. Mixed childrens’ classes will be held on Friday evenings at 5:45 - 6:45 and on Sunday afternoons at 1:00 - 2:00. The classes are open to mature six-year olds and older. Teens older than 14 will be welcome to practice with the adults when they feel they are ready. Parents are encouraged to watch or participate. Adult members of the dojo will be on hand to assist. Childrens’ classes will commence on Friday, July 17, 2009.

Location:

The dojo is located at 2134 Magazine Street, between Jackson Avenue and Josephine Street. To get in the dojo, call (504) 561-0123 on your cellphone, or ring the third-floor doorbell and listen to the intercom. Push on the door and walk up the stairs to the third floor.

The beginners package is $175 for regular adult members and $150 for students and children, additional family members, persons in law enforcement, and members of the military (active duty or reserve).

After the two months have passed, regular dues of $75/month or discounted dues of $60/month will be processed automatically on a recurring basis on the same date as your start date (your bill date) until you tell us in writing at least five business days prior to your bill date that you wish to terminate your membership. Dues must be paid by Mastercard or Visa.
